Volume #91
"Are You Caring for Yourself — or Performing Self-Care?"
"Do you really know how to care for yourself? Beyond what you’ve read in a book, a magazine, or a social media post, have you spent time with yourself to ask, “What do I need?” And have you listened long enough to let your answer guide your actions?
These questions bring me back to the heart of self-care: learning to communicate with the inner YOU. There is something deeply personal about recognizing what you need through your own thoughts, emotions, body, and spirit—and trusting yourself enough to respond with love.
But when our self-care journey begins, we often look outside ourselves for the what, why, and how. We gather suggestions, follow routines, and try to do everything correctly. Before we know it, we’re following someone else’s routine without asking whether it fits our needs.
Then comes the inner turmoil. We’re so concerned about keeping up with the practice that we lose sight of why we started. We noticed we weren’t caring for ourselves, yet somehow caring for ourselves has become another expectation to meet. Eventually, we may say, “Self-care doesn’t work,” or find ourselves dreading the very thing we hoped would support us.
Sometimes, we need to pause and ask: “Is this practice caring for me? Does it meet a need I actually have?”
Remember, Self-Care is a Relationship. Not a Routine. It begins with opening communication with the inner YOU, listening, and putting that love into action.
If you’re wondering where to begin:
Start small and simple. Ask yourself, “What do I need right now?” Allow the answer to be simple, too.
Protect time to be with yourself. Make room for a brief, non-negotiable check-in, with no pressure to produce a breakthrough.
Check your basic needs. Have you eaten, had water, rested, or given yourself a moment to breathe? Let what you notice guide your next loving action.
You deserve care that responds to who you are and what you need today. Give yourself space to discover what that feels like."
Chakra Activation" Heart (Anahata) Authentic Space:
To strip away performance, we must return to the unmasked center of love. The Heart Chakra, located right at the center of your chest, is the seat of true intimacy and radical self-honesty.
The Physical Anchor: Sit upright, drop your shoulders away from your ears, and place your right hand flat over the center of your chest. Feel the steady rhythm of your heartbeat beneath your palm.
The Visualization: Imagine a warm, glowing emerald-green light expanding behind your hand, gently burning away the need for external validation, applause, or perfection.
The Breath: Inhale slowly for 4 counts, drawing that green light deep into your lungs. Exhale slowly for 6 counts, whispering internally: "I don't need to perform to be worthy."
The Affirmation: Whisper or think: "I choose alignment over appearance. I care for my soul, not my status."
The Seal: Gently press your hand to your chest, sealing your authenticity for this Great Day.
The Strategist’s View:
"As a strategist, I look at performance-based wellness as Brand Management.
Strategic Shifts for this Beautiful Rising:
Aligned Practice vs. Pressure Practice:
An aligned practice is born from an internal conversation: 'What does my soul need right now?' It feels like relief, even when it's challenging.
A pressure practice is born from external fear: 'What will happen if I don't do this?' It feels like guilt, anxiety, and a relentless to-do list.
Decoding Physical Tension and Discomfort: Remember, physical tension, exhaustion, restlessness, and discomfort are not personal failings or public embarrassments; they are communication deserving your attention. When you perform self-care, you ignore these physical signals in favor of looking 'disciplined.' True care listens to the ache.
Stillness as Presence, Not Performance: Stillness is not another task to complete. You don't get a gold star for sitting quietly. Stillness is the absence of an audience. It is just you, meeting yourself in the dark without a script."
The “Mask-Drop” Protocol:
Let’s separate the performance from the partnership. Grab your phone or a notebook.
Expose the Stage: Write down one self-care habit you've been clinging to that feels more like a performance or a duty than true nourishment.
Ask the Motive: Write down: 'Am I doing this for my peace, or am I doing this to prove something?'
The Pivot: If it’s pure performance, scale it down or swap it for something invisible, quiet, and deeply personal (e.g., swapping a complex workout for three minutes of slow breathing on your kitchen floor).
The Commitment: Write: 'I am done performing my healing. I choose real alignment.
The Integration Protocol:
True inside-out transformation requires us to drop the audience. Before you attempt to act on a new habit or fix your routine, integrate this shift through three distinct phases:
Tap into Awareness: Bring your focus completely into your physical body right now. Notice where you are holding tension from trying to maintain an image or keep up appearances. Acknowledge that exhaustion without judgment.
Sense It and Sit With It: Do not rush to fix your schedule or construct a better image. Sit right in the middle of your unedited, unpolished reality. Let your nervous system experience the profound safety of not performing for anyone—not even yourself.
Allowing and Receiving: Stop forcing perfection or managing your perception. Open your hands, drop your shoulders, and simply allow your authentic, unmasked presence to fill the room. Receive the deep peace of being completely unseen and completely loved before you ever try to give birth to a new action, a new habit, or a new step forward.
Food for Thought: "If every single wellness tool, routine, and social media post about 'self-care' vanished tomorrow, and nobody could ever see what you do for your health again... what would you actually keep doing for yourself?"
Wisdom Insight: "Most self-care is taught from the outside in, but true healing only happens when you begin listening to the wisdom that has always lived within you. Performing self-care is just another form of self-abandonment dressed up in activewear. This Great Day, put down the script, step off the stage, and start caring for the soul only you can see."

A Sacred Welcome:"The Honest Question Nobody Is Asking"
Wholeness, Beautiful Soul✨!
There is a question worth sitting with before this week begins — and it requires the kind of honesty that is not always comfortable. When you practice self-care, who are you doing it for?
Not who you think you should be doing it for. Who you are actually doing it for — in the quiet, unfiltered truth of the moment. Are you doing it because your body asked for it, your soul called for it, and your genuine well-being depends on it? Or are you doing it because it looks like what a woman who has her life together does? Because the accountability partner is watching. Because the morning routine makes you feel like someone who is finally serious about herself. Because not doing it would mean facing something you are not quite ready to face.
Both can look identical from the outside. The meditation cushion. The journal. The green juice. The workout logged. The same actions, the same aesthetics — but two completely different inner experiences. One is self-care. The other is the performance of it. And only one of them will ever truly restore you.
This week, we get honest about which one
has been running the show.
Food For Thought:
Nourishment for Your Soul:
"The Inner Experience Is Everything"
Two women can complete the identical rising routine and have completely opposite inner experiences of it. For one, it is genuine nourishment — a practice that grew from her own honest inquiry into what restores her. For the other, it is performance — a standard she has set for herself that now runs her rather than serves her. The practices are the same. The inner relationship to the practices is entirely different.
What makes the difference is not what you do. It is why, and more importantly, how you receive it. Aligned self-care is received with openness — there is a quality of actually taking it in, letting it matter, being present enough to be changed by it even a little. Performed self-care is done — checked off, completed, logged — but not truly received. And a practice that is not received cannot nourish, regardless of how consistently it is performed.
"Aligned or Performed Self-Care"
Before the practices. Before the tips. We stop here — not to add anything, but to create the conditions in which the truest thing can be heard. Because the difference between aligned and performed self-care cannot be found in a technique. It can only be found in genuine, honest, unhurried inner presence.
Notice what you feel right now — not what you think you should feel after reading about self-care. What is actually present? Let it be there without immediately trying to fix it, frame it, or use it as evidence of anything about yourself.
A Reflection to Carry with You
When was the last time a self-care practice genuinely surprised you — when it gave you something you did not know you needed, or brought up something that turned out to be more important than what you had planned? That moment of genuine encounter is what aligned self-care feels like. How can you create more room for that this week?
“To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.”
Oscar Wilde
“Caring for your body, mind, and spirit is your greatest and grandest responsibility. It's about listening to the needs of your soul and then honoring them.”
Kristi Lin
WISDOM FROM SPIRITUAL MOTHERS & FATHERS
Louise Hay:“I am in the process of making positive changes in all areas of my life. I love and approve of myself exactly as I am. I no longer need to prove my worth through performance.”
Maya Angelou:“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be. Show up as yourself — that is always enough.”
Queen Afua:“When a woman heals herself, she does so from the inside out — not from the outside in. Your practice is sacred only when it is genuinely yours.”
Iyanla Vanzant:“Stop doing what looks good and start doing what feels true. That is where your real healing lives.”
Closing: Heart-to-Heart
Dearest one, genuine self-care is not impressive. It does not require an audience, a streak, or a morning routine that begins at 5 AM. It requires only one thing: that it be truly, honestly, personally for you. When it is, you will know — not because you feel virtuous for having done it, but because you feel more like yourself for having received it. That is the only standard that has ever mattered.
Come back to yourself. Come back to the real. Your self-care, when it is genuinely yours, is always enough.
You are exactly where you need to be, and the most powerful self-care you will ever practice is the one that is honestly, personally, completely yours.
With love and deep permission to be real,
Your Self-Care Strategist 💕
P.S. Sweet soul, if this volume landed with the particular relief of being seen — if some part of you recognized the performance and felt something release at finally naming it — please let that recognition be the beginning, not a reason for more self-criticism. The fact that you have been performing self-care is not evidence of inauthenticity. It is evidence of how hard you have been trying. Now you get to try differently. One genuine practice. One honest need met. One moment of receiving rather than achieving. That is the shift. That is everything.
“The most common form of despair is not being who you are.”
