Choose Yourself:
Before There's Nothing Left
"Learning to choose myself was a long road I traveled for many years, and I'm still evolving, still embracing deeper parts of my inner universe. Throughout my life, I've had countless occasions where I was operating on fumes with nothing left to give—but I kept saying yes with my mouth while my heart was screaming no. I call this the empty tank feeling: a void you try to fill through over-giving, living up to others' expectations, maintaining no boundaries, and fixing what was never yours to fix in the first place.
The crisis of self-sacrifice relates to our conditioning. We've been taught to believe that good people are those who give until it hurts, that we should wear busy and burnout like badges of honor. But here's the truth I've learned the hard way: self-sacrifice is a short-term strategy with a devastating long-term cost. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and eventually, the people and projects you love will only get the version of you that's running on fumes—depleted, resentful, and unable to show up as your best self.
Choosing yourself means recognizing that your well-being is the primary resource that fuels everything else. It's an act of responsibility, not selfishness. It means being proactive about filling your tank, not waiting for it to be bone dry before you finally pause to catch your breath. When you choose yourself, you're actually choosing to be more available, more present, and more genuinely helpful to the people and causes that matter to you—because you're operating from abundance rather than depletion.
Remember this: choosing yourself is the single most important choice you can make. You are your most valuable resource, and your well-being deserves to be protected with the same fierce dedication you give to protecting others. Let this week be the week you stop running on empty and start operating from a place of genuine abundance. Your tank matters. Fill it first."

Welcome to this sacred space where you finally come first. This week, we're exploring the urgent, necessary, and deeply loving act of choosing yourself—not selfishly, but strategically, before you reach the breaking point where there's nothing left to give. You matter. Your needs matter. And it's time to act like it.
Food For Thought: Honoring Your Sacred Worth: The Courage to Choose You First
There's a dangerous belief many women carry: that choosing ourselves is selfish, that our needs should always come last, that we should give until we're empty and then somehow find a way to give more. We've been taught that good women sacrifice, that loving mothers martyr themselves, that devoted partners disappear into their relationships, that dedicated professionals work themselves to exhaustion.
This week, we honor your right to choose yourself—not occasionally, not when it's convenient, not after everyone else's needs are met—but now, today, as a daily practice and sacred commitment. You're not just practicing self-care—you're preventing the crisis that comes from chronic self-neglect and reclaiming your place at the center of your own life.
WISDOM FROM SPIRITUAL MOTHERS & FATHERS
Paulo Coelho:
"When you say 'yes' to others, make sure you are not saying 'no' to yourself."
Maya Angelou:
"I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back."
Iyanla Vanzant:
"When you stand and share your story in an empowering way, your story will heal you and your story will heal somebody else."
Closing: Heart-to-Heart
Dearest one, remember that choosing yourself is not a one-time decision but a daily practice of radical self-love and wise stewardship of your precious energy. Just as a garden cannot thrive when all the water is poured onto the plants around it while the soil beneath remains parched, you cannot flourish when you're constantly giving to everyone but yourself.

P.S. Beautiful soul, if you're reading this and feeling overwhelmed by guilt at the thought of choosing yourself, please breathe into that feeling with compassion. The guilt you feel is not truth—it's programming. It's the voice of conditioning that taught you your worth is measured by how much you sacrifice. But loving yourself and loving others are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the best gift you can give the people you love is a version of yourself that's rested, joyful, and fulfilled. Start with just one small act of self-choice today—take five minutes alone, drink your coffee while it's hot, go to bed early without apology. Notice that the world doesn't fall apart. Notice that people adjust. Notice that you matter too. This is your permission slip to exist as someone worthy of care, not just someone who provides it.
"Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare."
Audre Lorde
